Around 65 MERCY Ambassadors in Africa participated in an event at the Vigilant Heart Orphanage based in Lekki (Lagos) Nigeria. The Vigilant Heart Charitable Society (VHCS) is a non-governmental organisation that caters for orphans, abandoned and underprivileged children by providing shelter, food, health care, counselling and education and seeks to protect the children and young people under their care from all forms of harm and abuse.

MERCY cool

The founder, Maria Osawamen, was very encouraged when we as the MERCY Ambassadors (also nicknamed The ‘Green Lanterns’) got to work encouraging 54 children and young people between the ages of 0-21 years. The disciples were helping out by reading story books, playing, colouring and keeping them entertained with a zealous role play of the biblical story “David & Goliath” which the children really enjoyed. Some bonded with the teenagers as they shared their upbringing prior to living in Vigilant Heart and how their lives have been changed through the support offered since living within the orphanage.

Now a relational foundation is built, MERCY in Nigeria is working to Maximise Efforts for Relief Care and Youth for the children and young people under their care, so as to build a lasting rapport with this incredible organisation. We look forward to building up MERCY Africa with programmes like this in the near future.

Special thanks goes to Goodhope and Bonita Atason from the Lagos International Christian Church who played a big role in organizing and coordinating this event and giving us the chance to shine Christ’s light into the lives of others. Indeed, a Great Light Has Dawned!

More details about this glorious day is coming in the next issue of “Good News Email” form the SoldOUt Movement.
